The Summerfield JV boys basketball team began their season with a well controlled victory for Ida, defeating the Bluestreaks 40-33.
Summerfield methodically controlled the pace of the game in the first half, comfortably beating the Ida press, then setting up for some long, patient possessions. The team did a nice job probing and waiting for good shots to develop. “We struggled to convert some point-blank looks into actual buckets, but we have to feel good about the patience displayed (for game one) and the looks we were getting.”
Defensively, Summerfield again controlled the action, closing out on shooters, switching screens, taking away passing lanes, and adjusting to the Ida ball movement.
Stats were incomplete as a break in a couple rookie helpers, but Keith Richards led the team in scoring with 22 pts.
The JV Bulldogs will next be in action Thursday at Airport, in a rare 7pm tip.
